BC-21 Instructions for Canon 2000/4000/5000 Series Printers

Color Ink Tank

Step 1:

Remove the cartridge from the printer.

Step 2:

Put the color ink tank in a vise and grab the top with a pair of pliers or vise grips. Rock the top back an forth until it comes loose (see photo).

Step 3:

Use the small hand drill to enlarge the vent hole in each chamber as shown below. The vent holes are the smallest. Tape off the exit holes on the bottom of the cartridge with black electrical tape as shown.

Step 4:

Attach the needle to the syringe and fill the syringe with ink. Make sure you inject the right color ink in the correct port. Compare the top fill holes with the bottom exit ports.

Step 5:

Insert the needle into the sponge as deep as it will go and then back off 1/8". Hold the cartridge over a cup or paper towel, some ink may drip out of the exit port. Slowly inject about 3 cc of ink into the cartridge. Watch for ink to well up around needle. Pull needle out and re-insert. Do not over fill or allow ink to reach the other fill holes.

Step 6:

Repeat this procedure for the other colors. Be careful to get the right color ink in the correct hole. If you have only one syringe, wash it out with warm water before going to the next color.

Step 7:

Tape the top back on. Don't block or plug the fill holes. Set the filled cartridge in a paper or Styrofoam cup for 15 minutes before reinstalling in printer. It may drip slightly.
